Dear Children of Mine

Dear Son and Daughter,

The world is a messed up place. It may seem that anywhere you go or any TV station you turn on only shows hate, vulgarity, or terror. It’s difficult to enter into this society without it seemingly trying to demoralize you… trying to rob all the good in you. And although that may be discouraging, remember you are a light to this world. You can make a change. You can be the good amidst evil. Remain faithful to your morals, relationships, and good works.

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. – Romans 12:2

For each of you, I knew the moment I saw your heartbeat on the ultrasound monitor at just 6 weeks, that you were something special. I knew since then that you were going to live a life of significance. Please don’t feel the need to compare yourself to others. You are wonderfully made.

I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. – Psalms 139:14

Life is by all means not easy. The enemy will try to wear you down and times may come where you do not feel good enough. You may feel drained, burnt out, or left with no passion. We are all put through many seasons in life. Remember, God allows things to happen – good and bad – and you will grow from both. Don’t absorb the hurt and pain because that will consume you, but keep chasing the desires of your heart. God knows everything you have been through, everything you’re going through now, and everything you face ahead.

…be content with what you have, for he has said, I will never leave you nor forsake you. So we can confidently say, The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me? – Hebrews 13:5-6

Children, remember you are never alone. Aside from your family who loved you even before you were born remember that God is with you always. What I’ve learned countless times is that when you seek Him, His presence is with you no matter what you’ve done, no matter what lies you’ve been told. He is with you… always.

What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? – Romans 8:31

There are many wolves disguising as sheep in the world. It’s unfortunate but sometimes you will find out the hard way. Please understand that because someone labels themselves as something, or because they go places, or do certain things, that it doesn’t define who they really are. I’ve been to plenty of “churches” and I’ve been friends with many “Christians” (who put on a good act) long enough to learn that the truth is always revealed... sooner or later. Focus on the good and God will do the rest.

Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. – Matthew 7:15

Please understand that God hates sin but continues to always love the sinner. Remember that sin is sin. There is no sin greater than the other. Please understand that you will sin as everyone does but what matters is how we learn from it and that we repent from it. What matters is that we don’t place others below or above us because of it.

Do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, forbearance and patience, not realizing that God’s kindness is intended to lead you to repentance?-Romans 2:4

Sometimes people will be upright nasty. They will try to belittle you. They may treat you like you’re nothing. They may throw you around as if you are trash. But please remember you are not what they make you out to be. Your first instinct will be to lash back, but love your enemy, as hard as it may be. Pray they find peace in their lives to where they don’t have to take out their own hurt on others.

You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.-Matthew 5:43-44

You are meant to be here. God knew you before you existed. He knows your past and future. He knew when you would take your first breath and he knows when you will take your last. He hears your laughs and he hears your cries. When you think you want something and you don’t receive it, understand that maybe it’s because you will eventually get something that is so much better for you. God is paving your path. There will be bumps in the road, but He is there at each one.

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.- Jeremiah 29:11
